A little about me: I just finished playing soccer for Oregon State University where I have spent the last 4 years pouring every bit of energy I had into the program. It was an unbelievable experience, playing with some incredible men and learning boatloads about myself along the way. My time on the team will influence the rest of my life. I'm also reaching the end of my undergraduate education at OSU, where I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport's Science with an Option in Fitness and Nutrition. The 8th Ranked Exercise and Sports Science Program in the country by the way. Although the above photo might not express it, I'm a pretty friendly guy. I have a lot of other interests besides exercise science, like studying religion and philosophy, playing video games, watching movies and yes, all things geek. That's where this blog is going.
I've wanted to blog for quite some time - throwing my thoughts out to the world, seeing what sticks and inviting others to join in the conversation. The trouble was, finding something specific to blog about. On one end of the continuum, you have all the superficial "look-at-me" mini-blogs that are flying around the interweb. If you really cared about me waking up, working out and what I was eating at every meal, you would follow my instagram or twitter. And then you've got the other end of the spectrum where the topics are incredibly deep and philosophical (and most of the time controversial) and I really did not want to start any bickering or arguments with my friends. As most people that know me would attest to, I have some views on certain topics that may stir up some emotional responses. I'm more than happy to discuss with anyone at any time; I would just ask that you approach me first.
So here I am, trying to find a middle ground of things people are actually interested in but won't cause any divides in the great friendships that I have. Therefore, I decided to dedicate this blog to my not-so-secret love of all things geek. I'll be discussing iPhone apps, Mac apps, new technology, video games, hardware, software, mediumware. It's all up for grabs. I want to make this as accessible to everyone as possible, so I'll be writing the blog with the knowledge that my Mum and sister (and Dad, the new new iPad owner) needs to understand what I'm talking about whilst still including the fun tech specs. Hopefully I can persuade some of you to try out some new toys, or start using software in your every day life that you might not have even thought useful in the past. Maybe some of you are geeks as well and want to share your own thoughts on my analysis of products - please do!
That's all for now! Just wanted to get this first post up so people knew what I would be writing about. If you're at all interested, please subscribe to the blog or look for the links on Twitter and Facebook. You can follow me on twitter: @travaldinho
Last point: I am an Apple Fanboy. Just throwing it out there. I love Apple, I love what they're about, I love the products that they make (mostly), I love the services they provide (sometimes), and I love their business model. That being said, I have no problem hating on them when they mess stuff up. So all you Android and Windows lovers out there just chill out. There will be plenty of stuff about them too. Sometimes it will even be positive.
